This site is produced to combat, challenge and correct the lies, distortions and fear-based anti-gay activism of the American Family Association (AFA).
The antidote for the disease of bigotry and ignorance is truth.
This site is about the truth.
The AFA is now one of the leading right-wing Christian organizations in America.
The Christian Coalition has fallen apart, the Family Research Council is struggling since losing its leader, Gary Bauer, and the Promise Keepers are very frail. Although there are many strong, healthy and wealthy right-wing Christian organizations and activists like Dr. James Dobson and his group Focus on the Family, these groups are focusing less and less on anti-gay activism.
It is notable that after the right-wing rising star of the Christian Coalition, Ralph Reed stepped down from the group that it began to crumble. He had warned the group, and others like it, to avoid anti-gay activism as the the centerpiece of their work because he believed it was a losing strategy. The AFA on the other hand, has made anti-gay activism and anti-pornography their centerpiece. Abortion, which seems to pre-occupy the religious right, is only a marginal concern to the AFA.
Let us hope that Ralph Reed was right and the AFA's anti-gay smear campaign will offend the senses of many Christians who see bigotry as a losing message.
The AFA has had its ups and downs, but is still a powerhouse in fundamentalist Christian activism. They have a large legal staff, radio stations and over $10 million in their annual war-chest. They now pose the single largest obstacle to safety, security, and equality for GLBT Americans. Their mission is to roll back all existing civil rights protections and gains that our community has made over the past half century.
The AFA also wants to prevent any future progress of GLBT rights. It is offensive to them that GLBT people be treated as equals or as the first-class citizens we are. Their mission is one of bigotry, hate, and power. They achieve their mission, ironically, by violating basic Christian principals of honesty, kindness, and non-judgment.
